NORTH SHORE MODEL AERO
CLUB
Flying is on Sundays (depends on the weather of course) starting at about 9 am and finishing about 3 pm. Members can use the field 7 days a week during daylight so long as they observe the NZMAA and CAA rules. Becuse the flying is less than 4 km from the Dairy Flat airfield, flyers are expected to have an observer and to carefully observe the 400 feet maximum altitude rule.
Sometimes if the winter weather has been very wet or lambing is on we may not be able to use the field for a few weeks. If you are planning on visiting you are welcome to stop by but if it has been wet for a while check with one of the club officers mentioned below. The farm site has a few trees but not much in the way of neighbours (yet) and although the runway can occasionally be walked over by large hairy animals that put dents in the strip and drop large smelly obstacles on it, most of the time the sheep keep the field neatly trimmed.
The club has a steady membership of all ages and new flyers are always very welcome. We fly mostly R/C with a range of interests: sports, pattern, scale, gliders and helicopters. A typical nice summer Sunday would see about 15 -20 fliers.
Fuel:
The club supplies fuel at
a considerable savings on retail. Contact the fuel officer.
Membership:
We welcome new members and for anyone
new to the hobby are we are happy to arrange mentors (to help with things like
choice of gear and building planes) and instructors (to help you learn to fly
your creation). Either turn up at the farm on a flyable day and talk to the
people there or better, contact our secretary John Robertson (09) 625-6400 or john.robertson@aut.ac.nz.
He can
tell you more about the club and arrange for a suitable mentor/instructor.
The
current fees are $95 for a senior member. $55 for a junior member (aged 17 and
under) and $105 for a family. Most
of that goes to the NZMAA affiliation and insurance. Fees are due 1st of April
each year.
For more information on membership and application
forms contact the club secretary (click the contacts button from the front page).
Annual Electric Only Rally
